Gifted and Talented Program

District Philosophy and Goals

The goal of the gifted and talented program is to challenge students beyond the NJSLS state standards, foster independence, create critical thinking opportunities, and build their collaborative spirit.

In Kindergarten through 4th grades, all students are provided with challenging opportunities that are appropriate to their abilities and interests through extension activities and alternative projects and assignments within the classroom. These activities foster self-esteem, problem solving and creative thinking skills. Teachers using differentiation strategies and various grouping methods across the content areas further meet the needs of individual learners.

All students in grades five through eight meet with the Gifted and Talented teachers in the Related Arts Period. All Belhaven students benefit from enrichment activities in the Related Arts that provide extension activities including but not limited to, design theory, sustainable building, research projects, digital storytelling, public speaking, Mock Trial, and participation in Belhaven's TV production activities. Additionally, pre-engineering middle school activities are offered to the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Gifted and Talented students within the Industrial Technology Related Arts rotation.  In grades five through eight, all students are provided opportunities for enrichment through a variety of clubs and athletic experiences including band, drama, STEAM Club, Think Team, Garden Club, a multitude of athletic teams, etc.

In grades five through eight, all students are provided opportunities for enrichment through thirty clubs and athletic experiences including band, drama, Steam Club, Think Team, etc.
