Preschool Program Supports
Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) is an advisory group of community stakeholders interested in the education and welfare of children in preschool through grade three that is convened by the school district (N.J.A.C.6A:13A-1.2). As required under N.J.A.C.6A:13A-4.6, the district board of education shall establish a preschool through grade three early childhood advisory council (ECAC) to review preschool program implementation of high-quality programs, serve as advisory support for the local school district’s preschool program and support transition as children move from preschool through grade three.
Preschool Intervention Referral Specialist (PIRS) provides support to teachers in their implementation of the Pyramid Model for Promoting Social and Emotional Competence in Young Children. The primary role of PIRS is to provide coaching for the teachers to enhance their use of the Pyramid Model practices in the classroom. As needed, the PIRS consults with a team of experts, the Preschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT), to provide strategies and possible interventions for the teachers to implement in the classroom to promote the success of all young children. The PIRT is supervised by the school principal, supervisor, and may also include preschool teachers, special education teachers, behavior specialists, psychologists, learning disabilities teacher-consultants, school social workers, speech and language pathologists or other specialists. Check out more information about PIRT here.
Community Parent Involvement Specialist (CPIS) enhances and supports family involvement in our Preschool Program. Through various at-home activities, community resources, parent contact, support groups, and family activities, the CPIS strives to make each family's Preschool experience a positive and rewarding one. The CPIS will also explore feedback from the community on how to improve the quality of the Preschool program in Linwood! The CPIS has a variety of functions including coordination of the early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC), evaluating the needs of families, coordinating systematic parent involvement plans and activities, and coordinating work with other community agencies.
